SPOON vol. 4 was the magazine that started the porno-chic movement in fashion.
The March 1999 release of SPOON Vol 4 titled the Summer of Love issue, is widely credited by fashion historians and industry publications like The Face as the definitive avant-garde catalyst for the late-1990s "porno-chic".
The term "porno chic" originally described the mainstreaming of adult films in the 1970s, its reincarnation in 1990s high fashion mixed luxury clothing with highly raw, provocative, and sexually explicit imagery
This issue featured hyper-sexualized layouts that pushed the boundaries of traditional editorial work. The section with hyper-sexualized layouts of the magazine were glued shut, and each page had to be carefully separated. Steve Hiett photographed the cover once again for the 4th time, and other artist such as Jean Francois Lepage pushed the boundary at the time.
This issue, heavily influenced the commercial explosion of the trend, which was later adopted globally by major fashion houses (such as Tom Ford's era at Gucci) and prominent photographers like Terry Richardson.
