The History of SPOON Magazine

SPOON Magazine started in Paris, France, in 1996 as the first online-only fashion magazine. This Webzine gained international attention and press coverage for its avant-garde fine art and fashion photography. The following fall of 1997, the first print issue came out; Vol 1 SPOON was 6 ½ x 6 ½ inches, with staples. Vol 2 SPOON was the last issue to be printed with stapes (which was more expensive) was 10 ½ x10 ½ inches and came out in the Spring 1998. Vol. 3 of SPOON came out in the Fall of 1998, and from then on, SPOON magazine was a biannual publication. Vol 8

SPOON came out in the Spring of 2001; this issue was the start of a new creative direction, and two new issues were created: SPOON Men and SPOON Beauty. SPOON Men Magazine started under the new creative direction. The first publication Vol 1 SPOON Men came out in the Spring 2001during men’s fashion week and was a bi-annual magazine.

SPOON Beauty Magazine also started under new creative direction. Vol 1 SPOON Beauty came out in the Summer of 2001 and was published annually. The last issue, Vol 4 SPOON Beauty, GIRLS ON FILM, came out in 2003. This was the first issue for which a DVD of “the making of” the magazine's fashion shoots was made. Celebrity actress Monica Bellucci was featured, and SPOON held a party during the Cannes Film Festival. The Matrix Reloaded showed that year, and SPOON LTD signed a deal with FashionTV to show the “Making Ofs. The global reach and influence of this cable network brought SPOON to 5 million households
